  3. Tell me about a time where you had to make an important decision without consulting your manager. What was the situation and how did it turn out?

Technical Questions

  1. How do you plan migration and what do you know you need to first?
  2. Can you remind me again what the strategic phases were?
  3. Can you explain the difference between rehost, replatform, refactoring or rearchitecting?
  4. How do you actually plan the migration phase?
  5. If you were to migrate a static web page portal for your customer, how would you go about that?
  6. What if this web application had a database attached to it and users needed to log in do some things. How would you migrate the database that is completely separate from the actual application?
  7. What if we had an extremely large database let's say 15 terabytes worth of data - how would you recommend the customer to migrate that data would you still use DMS?
  8. Can you tell me a little bit more about data sync?
  9. When you say replicate data how does it actually do that? Is that straight off the internet or is it like a snowball or is this completely different?
  10. Can you tell me the advantages of block replication for migrations using a tool like CloudEndure - what's the benefit of that?
  11. Can you explain a little bit more about the overall architecture if you're using CloudEndure and you mentioned a couple of times about the replication servers - what other requirements are you looking at if you were to use CloudEndure for the architecture?
  12. If we're already set up and migrating a server and we are coming up on a window. We've already cut over everything looks successful but the application cannot connect to the new database - how would you troubleshoot that?
  13. What if the application here is intermittent sporadic - you only have maybe 15 or 20 users that are complaining about connectivity, but this application supports about a thousand people and the rest don't have any problems. How would you troubleshoot that?
  14. What is that methodology based upon? (referring to assess, mobilize and migrate)

Behavioral Questions

  1. Can you tell me about a time when you were trying to understand a complex problem on your team and you had to dig into details to figure it out? Who did you talk with? Where did you have to look for the most valuable information and how did you use that information to help solve the problem?
  2. Did the RTO still stay at 8 hours? (follow-up question)
  3. How did the project stakeholders respond to this solution? (follow-up question)
  4. Can you tell me about a time where you had to dig deep into finding out the root cause of something - usually an issue or a problem that you found? How did you know what you were focusing on was the right thing to focus on? What was the outcome? And would you have done anything differently?

The interview also ended with an opportunity for the candidate to ask questions.

The Amazon Web Services Professional Services (ProServe) team is seeking a skilled Delivery Consultant to join our team at Amazon Web Services (AWS). In this role, you'll work closely with customers to design, implement, and manage AWS solutions that meet their technical requirements and business objectives. You'll be a key player in driving customer success through their cloud journey, providing technical expertise and best practices throughout the project lifecycle.

Possessing a deep understanding of AWS products and services, as a Delivery Consultant you will be proficient in architecting complex, scalable, and secure solutions tailored to meet the specific needs of each customer. You'll work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, assess current infrastructure, and propose effective migration strategies to AWS. As trusted advisors to our customers, providing guidance on industry trends, emerging technologies, and innovative solutions, you will be responsible for leading the implementation process, ensuring adherence to best practices, optimizing performance, and managing risks throughout the project.

The AWS Professional Services organization is a global team of experts that help customers realize their desired business outcomes when using the AWS Cloud. We work together with customer teams and the AWS Partner Network (APN) to execute enterprise cloud computing initiatives. Our team provides assistance through a collection of offerings which help customers achieve specific outcomes related to enterprise cloud adoption. We also deliver focused guidance through our global specialty practices, which cover a variety of solutions, technologies, and industries.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of experience in hands-on cloud enterprise architecture design, storage and networking solutions
  • 3+ years of experience in consulting and working with enterprise customers
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in working with enterprise customers in building, migrating and modernizing enterprise applications
  • 3+ years of experience with customer cloud transformation activities to ensure successful delivery of solutions

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • AWS experience preferred, with experience in a wide range of AWS services (e.g., EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, IAM, VPC, CloudFormation)
  • AWS Professional level certifications (e.g., Solutions Architect Professional, DevOps Engineer Professional) preferred
  • Experience with automation and scripting (e.g., Terraform, Python, CDK, shell, Ruby, Powershell)
  • Knowledge of security and compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR)
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Experience with AWS services (e.g. AWS Application Migration Service (MGN), Cloud Migration Factory, Portfolio analysis tooling) and managing large scale data center to data center and/or data center to cloud migrations; data center operations (e.g. data assurance, monitoring, alerting and notifications)
  • Experience integrating AWS AI/ML services (SageMaker, Bedrock, Amazon Q); understanding of AI/ML governance and responsible AI practices

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $118,200/year in our lowest geographic market up to $204,300/year in our highest geographic market.
